WBB Remains Unblemished This Season After Earning 75-64 Win Over UNI
November 18, 2023 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team (4-0) proved themselves yet again this season as the Cardinals were able to remain undefeated improving to 4-0 after earning a 75-64 victory versus Northern Iowa (1-2) Saturday afternoon at Worthen Arena.
Newcomer Nyla Hampton shined from start to finish scoring a season-high 19 points just four shy of her career high. Hampton came out strong from start to finish. Not too far behind Hampton in scoring was Madelyn Bischoff with 18 after shooting 5-of-8 (.625) from the 3-point line. Rounding out the Cardinals double-digit scoring was Ally Becki with 10.
Hampton and Bischoff opened the contest with back-to-back baskets to give Ball State the quick 5-0 edge over Northern Iowa. The Cardinals eventually went up 11-4 by the 6:22 mark but that didn't last long as the Panthers finally gathered their footing and would knot the game 11-11 just a minute later. Bischoff answered with a quick 3-pointer to take away Northern Iowa's momentum, the Cardinals were then able to end the first quarter of play with a 20-16 lead over the Panthers.
The second period remained an up-and-down affair which saw the Panthers chomping at the heels of the Cardinals. Ball State turned up the heat with less than two minutes left after Ana Barreto came off the bench to provide a spark. Barreto knocked down a 3-pointer to end the half which gave Ball State a seven-point (35-28) lead.
After intermission, the last two quarters of play mimicked the first half as every possession mattered for both squads. But it was the Cardinals that would prevail making every play matter that would eventually lead to yet another victory for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's basketball team begins its in-state rivalry week Wednesday at IUPUI for a 2 pm ET matinee in Indianapolis. The Cardinals will then host No. 14/16 Notre Dame on Friday, Nov. 24 at 5 pm ET in Worthen Arena. We encourage fans to wear black for our "Blackout" event.
