
Men’s S&D Takes Second at House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS - - Led by victories in the 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay Saturday, the Ball State men's swimming & diving team took second among the 10-team field at the House of Champions invitational at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The Cardinals closed the three-day event with 1108 points, and five event wins, to trail only host IUPUI which finished with a score of 1383.5.
Leading the way was fifth-year senior Owen Chaye who completed the freestyle sprint sweep with a first-place time of 43.85 in the 100 freestyle. Chaye, who picked up the 50 freestyle win on Friday, also swam leadoff for the winning 400 freestyle relay which finished with the second-fastest time in program history at 2:58.95. He was joined by sophomore Jacob Siewers, senior Joey Garberick and junior Ethan Pheifer.
Garberick would go on to earn a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:58.94.
Ball State also received a fourth-place finish by fifth-year senior Bryce Handshoe in the 200 butterfly (1:50.68), and sixth-place showings by freshman Malcolm Slater in the 1650 freestyle (15:48.96) and junior Max Kruglov in the 200 backstroke (1:51.77). Slater's effort was also the third-fastest in program history.
Up next, select members of the Ball State men's swimming & diving program will return to action at the Minnesota Invite held Nov. 29-Dec. 2 at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center.
