
Siewers’ Record 200 Freestyle Leads Men’s S&D on Day 2 of House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS - - It was the men's swimming & diving program's turn to post a program record Friday, as sophomore Jacob Siewers beat his own mark in the 200 freestyle on his way to winning the event on the second day House of Champions invitational at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Siewers' mark came early in the day when he earned the top seed in the prelims with a program-record wall touch of 1:38.62. He nearly beat the mark again in the final's session, clocking in at 1:38.71 to earn the event victory by .09.
It was the first of back-to-back wins for the Cardinals, as senior Joey Garberick continued his dominance in the 100 breaststroke by picking up his third win of the season in the event by clocking in at 52.86.
With the two wins Friday, Ball State raised its overall meet total to three.
The Cardinals also bookended the day with a pair of second-place efforts, starting with the second-fastest 200 medley relay in program history as junior Michael Burns, Garberick, fifth-year senior Bryce Handshoe and fifth-year senior Owen Chaye combined for a time of 1:28.01.
Ball State would go on to close the second day of competition with a second place showing in the 800 freestyle relay as Siewers, freshman Malcolm Slater, junior Alexander Eddy and freshman Tommy Brunner clocked in at 6:37.50.
In addition to his relay effort, Handshoe paced the Cardinals with a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (49.31). Other top performances for Ball State came from junior Max Kruglov in the 400 IM (10th - 4:02.15), junior Ethan Pheifer in the 100 backstroke (6th - 49.84) and fifth-year senior Wyatt Blake on the 3M diving board (299.35).
After the pair of event wins and 10 overall top 10 efforts Friday, the Ball State men's swimming & diving team remains third among the 10-team field with 709 points. Host IUPUI holds the meet lead at 944, followed by Lewis at 768.
Action in the House of Champions invitational concludes Saturday, with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
