Driscoll Tied For 8th After Day 1 Of Loyola Parkinson Family Invite
October 09, 2023 | Women's Golf
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. - - Sophomore Jasmine Driscoll shot a second-round 73 (+1), the sixth-lowest round by any golfer on the day, to lead the Ball State women's golf team on the opening day of the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational.
Throw in an opening-round 81 (+9) at the Merit Club and Driscoll is currently tied for eighth among the 80-golfer field at 154 (+10), 11 strokes off the lead, but only five back of third place.
The challenging 72-par, 6,041-yard course played tough in the morning for all 12 programs, with no team shooting better than 304 (+16). Unfortunately, the Cardinals played the opening 18 at a combined 331 (+43) and found themselves in 11th.
While the course played just as tough in the afternoon, the tide started to turn for Ball State which shaved 18 strokes off its first-round total to ultimately tie for the sixth-best second-round score at 313 (+25). The effort helped the Cardinals climb two spots up the leaderboard into ninth heading into Tuesday's final round.
Freshman JJ Gregston also turned in a strong overall day for Ball State, leading the squad in the opening round with a 78 (+6) and rounding out her 36-hole day with another 78 (+6). Her score of 156 (+12) is tied for 17th heading into the final round.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Madelin Boyd also shined over the final 18 with a 77 (+5) and is currently tied for 29th at 159 (+15).
North Dakota State currently holds the team lead at 603 (+27), while Sofia Chabon of Cal Baptist holds the individual lead at 143 (-1). She is the only player in red numbers after the opening two rounds.
The final round of the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational begins at 8:30 a.m. CT Tuesday with a shotgun start. The Cardinals are slated to start on holes 8-10.
