BOWLING GREEN, Oh. – Cross country completed the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championship race Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The team competed on Bowling Green State University's home course, the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course where they finished 10th.
Sophomore Carly Spletzer led the team, running a personal best of 21:34.66.
"The MAC meet is everything we've prepared for," Spletzer said. "We did a really good job going into it, our team dynamic has been really good this year and I think that helped. I think my race went really well, I got a PR which was nice. That's what you're looking for in a big meet so that was really good."
"As a team, we continue to work well. Every day we work hard and we're just going to continue to build from this, continue to get stronger and hopefully have one last strong race at regionals."
Spletzer was followed by junior Sarah Mahnensmith and Jessica Velez. Manensmith finished with a time of 22:00.53. Velez finished with a personal best time of 22:31.76, 10 seconds faster than her previous PR.
Junior Shelby Christman crossed the finishline for the the Cardinals next, running a time of 22:40.44. Sophomore Ella Fullmer followed, running a personal best of 23:43.14.
Freshman Maci Hoskins and Kendyl Thrasher rounded out the Cardinal competitors finishing with the respective times of 24:21.19 and 24:42.35.
"I was excited to see our ladies compete today," said head coach Adrian Wheatley. "They had a mindset of coming out and competing for eachother. We always talk in our program that being prepared for the championship is really important. They executed that today and I am excited to see them continue to compete here in the next couple of weeks at the regional meet."
The team will compete again on Friday, November 10th in Madison, Wisconsin for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
