
Women’s Tennis' Comeback Bid Falls Short in 4-3 Loss at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - It was a frantic comeback attempt by the Ball State women's tennis team (1-1) in singles play but unfortunately the Cardinals fell short after falling to Big Ten foe Purdue (4-0) 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Boilermakers took the team point with wins at the first and third spots.
Singles saw a comeback of sorts by the Cardinals with three set thrilling victories on courts two, five and six.
Mariya Polishchuk, Annika Planinsek and Elena Malykh all dropped their first frames against their respective opponents. Polishchuk came back on court two to take sets two and three from Purdue's Carmen Gallardo Guervara, 7-5, 6-3.
Planinsek dominated her last two frames versus the Boilermakers' No. 5 singles player by a score of 6-1, 6-4 for her victory.
Malykh defeated Juana Larranaga at the No. 6 spot in her last two frames, 7-5, 6-2.
But the Boilermakers earned the team win after dominating performances on courts one, three and four.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring action on the road when its travels to Louisville Saturday, Jan. 28. First serve is at noon.
