Beemer Named Head Coach at Butler
June 21, 2022 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Rich Maloney and the Ball State baseball team announced that Blake Beemer is leaving BSU to take the head coaching job at Butler on Tuesday. Beemer has spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach for the Cardinals and has a bachelor's degree as well as an MBA from Ball State.
A three-year captain for Ball State as a player, Beemer returned to BSU after the 2018 season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The 2022 season was the ninth season in college coaching for Beemer, who previously coached at Eastern Illinois and Penn State.
This past season, Beemer helped coach the Cardinals to a regular season MAC Championship and the opportunity to host the MAC Tournament. He aided in the Cardinals winning 40 games for just the third time in program history. Ball State racked up 10 All-MAC honorees at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign. Beemer spent the last four seasons as Maloney's right-hand man. He served as the recruiting coordinator as well as the outfield and catcher coach and assisted with hitting along with defensive placement.
Before coming back to Ball State, Beemer coached three seasons at Eastern Illinois, where the team had a prolific lineup. EIU ranked fourth in the NCAA with 83 home runs in 2017 and ranked in the top 50 in scoring offense. In 2016, the Panthers also ranked among the top 35 teams nationally in doubles. Two of Beemer's EIU players signed professional contracts. Beemer also coached outfielders and served as the first base coach at Penn State, where he helped the Nittany Lions increase their win totals each year.
Beemer was a four-time letterwinner from 2010-13 at BSU and three-year captain (2011-13). He scored 108 runs with 94 RBIs with a career .286 batting average as a Cardinal. Always involved and engaged around athletics and campus, he served two years on the SAAC Executive Committee as an undergrad and was one of 30 finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award.
From the Coach – Head Coach Rich Maloney
"We celebrate Blake Beemer as Butler's new head coach with great joy and a tiny bit of sadness. Blake was a three-time captain at Ball State and exemplified everything we want out of our student-athletes, a leader on and off the field, an excellent student earning his bachelor's and MBA from Ball State, and a dedicated baseball player. For the last four years, he served as my right-hand man, recruiting coordinator, outfield coach, and catcher coach, assisting me with our hitters, defensive positioning, etc. No task was too small or too large for him to handle. He would always ask me, is there anything else I could do for you, coach? Blake always wanted me to give him more. He is a continual learner, always wanting to improve himself. He is an outstanding recruiter and tireless worker. On the one hand, I am sad to see him go but thrilled that he will have the opportunity to run his own program and significantly impact the lives of the student-athletes he will coach."
