Khan, Ranieri, Wiseman pick up academic award from conference
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State men's golfers Ali Khan, Joey Ranieri and Joey Wiseman earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference, the league office announced Wednesday.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
"I am really proud of the entire team on an outstanding year in the classroom, but especially Joey, Joey and Ali leading the way both on and off the course and being recognized by the league," head coach Mike Fleck said. "I appreciate our guys valuing the expectations of being excellent students and competitive players, and we are excited to get everyone back together in the fall."
Khan, a redshirt freshman, touted a 3.755 GPA while working towards a degree in landscape architecture. The Columbus, Ohio native held a 74.21 strokes-per-round average in his first season on the course. Khan had three top-10 finishes on the season, including a 10th-place showing at the MAC Championship.
Ranieri, a native of Zionsville, Ohio, picked up recognition for the second consecutive season behind a 3.531 GPA while majoring in marketing. The senior carded a team-best average round of 72.64 while racking up four top-10 finishes, including two inside the top five.
Joey Wiseman also secured the annual laurel for the second consecutive season with a 3.431 GPA in communication studies. The Corydon, Ind. native played in 10 events and boasted a 74.66 average strokes per round. Wiseman had nine rounds at par or better during his junior season.
