Hensley Earns NFCA All-Great Lakes Region First Team Honors

LOUISVILLE - - For the second straight season, Ball State softball senior outfielder Faith Hensley has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region First Team, as announced by the NFCA Thursday (May 19).

The 2022 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Hensley is one of only two league players to earn NFCA All-Region First Team honors this season. Overall, a total of 13 MAC student-athletes earned all-region accolades.

A two-time First Team All-MAC selection, Hensley led the Ball State offense with a .404 batting average in 2022. The mark also ranked third in the league and 49th nationally heading into NCAA Regional play.

One of the nation's top power hitters, ranking 25th nationally with a .814 slugging percentage, Hensley smashed 17 home runs this season which is the fourth-most in a single season in program history. The only player with more home runs in a season for the Cardinals, two-time NFCA All-American Jennifer Gilbert, the only All-American in program history to date.

Hensley was also one of the nation's top players in reaching base, as she ranked 15th among all NCAA Division I players with a .533 on base percentage. In addition to her team-leading 63 hits, which included seven doubles and three triples, Hensley was walked a MAC-leading 37 times and hit by six pitches.

Hensley was also BSU's top run producer over the course of the 2022 season, with team-highs of 51 runs scored and 40 RBI. She drove in multiple RBI in a team-high nine games, while earning at least one RBI in 24 of BSU's 53 games. She also scored at least one run in 32 contests, including two-or-more runs in 16 games.

In total, 381 student-athletes from 152 programs received 2022 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. Â

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2022 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

The 2022 NFCA Division I All-America teams, voted on by the NFCA DI All-American Committee, will be announced on Wednesday, June 1.
