Women’s Tennis Hands Rival Miami First MAC Loss of the Season

MUNCIE, Ind. - It was a sunny day at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center Sunday afternoon and the Ball State women's tennis team shined as the Cardinals posted a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois in Mid-American Conference action.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 15-3 (6-1 MAC) and handed the RedHawks their first conference loss as Miami dropped to 13-8 (6-1 MAC).
Ball State started the match strong from start to finish after taking the doubles point from Miami.
Mariya Polishchuk alongside her teammate Emma Peeler posted a 6-0 take down over Emilia Valentinsson and Sarah Dev at the No. 2 slot. Livia Lukacs and Jessica Braun would finish their match around the same exact time at the No. 3 position also defeating their respective opponents by a 6-0 score on court three.
After that, the Cardinals took singles victories on courts two and three to move ahead of the RedHawks 3-0. Braun was the first to exit after taking both sets 6-1 over Miami's No. 3 player Nishitha Saravanan. Polishchuk then tallied a 6-4, 6-1 defeat at the No. 2 spot over Laura Rico.
With four courts remaining, Miami did manage to earn one point, but Ball State took the last three courts with Lukacs clinching match point after beating Sarah Dev, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on the road next weekend when the Cardinals play at Western Michigan on Friday, April 15 at 1 pm ET at Sorensen Courts, weather permitting or West Hills Athletic Club.
