Strong Performances, Event Wins Highlight Ball State’s Meet at West Virginia
March 06, 2022 | Gymnastics
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - - The Ball State gymnastics team posted wins in all four events to highlight its meet at West Virginia Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals posted their second-highest road score of the season at 195.400. The Mountaineers won the meet with a score of 196.250.
"The group did a great job," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "They kept their focus on what we've been talking about in the gym, and they were competitive. They came out to be successful with the things that we've talked about, which is going after landings and handstands. That's an exciting thing to see, especially at this point in the season.
"They're energized by knowing that they're doing more in the gym than what they've been doing at competitions. They're working really hard to take that out of the gym and put that on here the competition floor, and I think we saw a lot of that today."
The Cardinals entered the meet ranked 43rd nationally with a team National Qualifying Score of 195.290. That score will increase, however, with today's performance which was BSU's second-best road score of the season.
Sophomore Hannah Ruthberg won the all-around competition with the third-highest score in program history at 39.325. She tied for the floor win with a score of 9.900. Junior Taylor Waldo tied for the second-highest score in Ball State record books with a 9.900 to win the beam.
Sophomore Suki Pfister won the vault with a score of 9.875, while junior Megan Teter won the bars with a season-best mark of 9.850.

Rotation 2 - Vault (49.050)

Rotation 4 - Beam (48.375)

MORE FROM HEAD COACH JOANNA SALEEM:
There were a lot of great individual performances. The cool part is that nobody was perfect. They just did nice, really solid gymnastics today. That's fun to watch whenever you're out here on the competition floor and seeing them gain some momentum from event to event.
