Junior Sydney Freeman got the Cardinals off on the right foot with a quick driving layup in the opening minute of today's contest. Ball State's movement of the ball was impeccable at the start of the first quarter with shots being made on a consistent basis not only in the paint but also from behind the arc. EMU made a slight comeback after the Cardinals were up 15-7 at the 3:32 mark but the Cardinals were able to end the first quarter of action with a slim 19-15 lead.
Ball State opened the second quarter with a 13-5 scoring spree which was capped off by a 3-pointer from senior Thelma Dis Agustsdottir to push the Cardinals to a 12-point (32-20) advantage over the Eagles with 5:54 remaining in the first half of play. The Cardinals would end up outscoring the Eagles 26-16 to take a 45-31 cushion over the Eagles at intermission.
After the break, it was not much of a contest anymore, as the Cardinals continued to dominate the floor both offensively and defensively. Ball State extended their lead to 21-points (70-49) at the end of the third period by outscoring Eastern Michigan 25-18.
The fourth quarter mimicked the previous ones, and the Eagles could not catch up to the Cardinals no matter how hard they tried. The fourth period was highlighted by Smith draining her first collegiate 3-pointer for BSU with just 1:43 left in the game and for the Cardinals, that put the exclamation point on today's victory for Ball State.
For the game, the Cardinals outscored the Eagles 50-26 in the paint. Not only was that stat impressive, so were the nine 3-pointers, five of them came from Ball State's leading scorer Agustsdottir who tallied a 24-point performance. Also reaching double digits were, Freeman with 16 and graduate student Chyna Latimer who chipped in 11. The Cardinals also handled the ball well with 25 assists and a season low five turnovers.
