Griffith qualifies for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Griffith will compete in the high jump and pentathlon in Birmingham, Ala.
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State track and field's Charity Griffith has qualified to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, announced by the NCAA. She is set to compete in the high jump and the pentathlon.
Griffith is the sixth Cardinal in program history to earn qualification to the annual championship meet and the first since Amber Williams in 2009. She is one of two in the Ball State record book to be a multi-event qualifier in the same season, joining Patricia Soman, who competed in the long jump and triple jump in 2003.
The Arlington, Ind. native is the first student-athlete in program history to earn qualification in the high jump and pentathlon events at the indoor championship.
Griffith's mark of 1.85m (6-0 3/4) is currently tied for the 10th-best mark in the country, while her 4,099 pentathlon points rank 16th.
Griffith, who was named the MAC's Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Field Performer, picked up a pair of gold medals at the conference meet last week.
She scored 20 points for the Cardinals at the MAC Championship after winning gold in the pentathlon and high jump through record-breaking performances.
The Arlington, Ind. native racked up a Ball State best 4,099 points to take first in the pentathlon. She won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74 – a personal best – won the high jump at 5-8 (1.73m), won the long jump at 19-1 1/2 (5.83m) and finished third in shot put (39-5, 12.01m) and fourth in the 800-meter run (2:23.04).
Griffith then cleared 1.85m (6-0 3/4) in the high jump to secure her second gold of the meet and set a new program mark.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships are set to take place March 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
