March 31, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 7 Ball State men's volleyball team continued to remain in the win column after posting yet another 3-0 sweep (25-17, 27-25, 25-20) this time over No. 15 McKendree Thursday night in Worthen Arena.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 18-2 and 10-1 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action while the Bearcats drop to 12-9, 7-4 in league play with the loss.
Senior Kaleb Jenness paced the Ball State attack with 15 kills, while graduate senior Angelos Mandilaris added 13 markers and led the team defensively as well with a game high nine digs.
Of course, the Cardinals offense would not have been as successful if it wasn't for their graduate senior setter Quinn Isaacson who dished out 37 assists on the night while tallying three service aces.
As a team, the Cardinals held a .367 (46-13-90) to .181 (38-19-105) attacking lead in the match, while out digging McKendree 36-to-29. Ball State also had an 11 to 4 edge in blocks over the Bearcats.
Both teams were neck-and-neck in the opening set tonight. McKendree took a 10-8 advantage before Mandilaris served up three straight points which included two aces to put the Cardinals ahead 14-11.
After that, Ball State controlled the first frame of action the remainder of the way eventually taking set one by a score of 25-17 off a solo block by Felix Egharevba.
The second game was a back-and-forth battle with neither team being able to pull too far ahead from one another. Mckendree had a slight 22-20 edge but a kill from Nick Martinski and a nice defensive play at the net from Egharevba and Isaacson knotted the second set, 22-22. The second frame went to extra points, but the Cardinals were able to hold onto the 27-25 win.
After that, set three was close but Ball State pretty much had the lead the entire third frame Martinski came through again with a kill for both the set and match point at 25-20.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will host No. 13 Lewis Saturday for senior night at 5 pm ET in Worthen Arena.
