Women’s S&D Ends Thursday with Another Program Record

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team closed the second day of the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championships with its third program record of the meet Thursday night at Bowling Green's Cooper Pool.
Freshman Hannah Jones, junior Apsara Sakbun, senior Alexa McDonald and freshman Gracey Payne combined for a time of 1:32.09 in the 200 freestyle relay to knock nearly a second off the previous record of 1:32.88 set at the 2020 MAC Championships.
It was the third program record for Sakbun so far this Championship, as she was anchor for both the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday.
Sakbun was also Ball State's top individual performer on Thursday, placing 10th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.13.
Payne, who claimed her second program record of the meet after swimming the opening leg of the 800 freestyle relay yesterday, also scored in the 50 freestyle by tying for 15th with a time of 23.28. It was just off her prelim clocking of 23.23 which is the fourth-fastest individual time in program history.
Sophomore Marcella Ribeiro was Ball State's first scorer on the second day of the meet, taking 14th in the 500 freestyle at 4:59.24.
In the diving well, freshman Ashleigh Provan scored in her first MAC Championships, placing 16th on the 1M board with a score of 219.70.
In prelim action, Jones added the fifth-fastest time in program history in the 50 freestyle by clocking in at 23.27 to finish 17th overall, just outside the consolation finals. That is on top of the program records she help set in the 800 freestyle and 200 medley relays.
Action in the 2022 MAC Championships pick up tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. with prelims in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke.
The 3M diving competition starts at 3 p.m., while finals action begins at 6:30 p.m. The last event of the day will be the 400 medley relay.
