
Chaye's 100 Free Record Leads S&D On Final Day Of Miami Invite

OXFORD, Ohio - - It was another big day for Ball State men's swimming & diving senior Owen Chaye, who broke his third program record in as many days with a 100 freestyle preliminary time of 44.36 on the final day of the Miami Invitational.

Chaye, who opened the three-day meet with program records in the 50 freestyle (19.91) and 200 freestyle relay (1:20.21) on Thursday, finished second in Saturday's 100 freestyle finals with a mark of 44.51.

Freshman Jacob Siewers also had a strong swim in the 100, turning in the fifth-fastest time in program history at 45.02.

Chaye and Siewers closed out the meet with one more solid effort, combining with senior Jack Wolfred and junior Joey Garberick for the fourth-fastest 400 freestyle relay on BSU's all-time list at 3:01.24. The effort earned the quartet third overall at the meet.

Another strong performance came from senior Bryce Handshoe, who became just the second swimmer in program history go sub-1:50 in the 200 butterfly, clocking in at 1:49.33 in the finals to take fifth in the race.

Overall, the Cardinals placed third among the nine teams at the Nixon Aquatic Center with 595.5 points. Grand Canyon won the competition at  1107.5, while host Miami took second at 881.

The Ball State men's swimming & diving program will once again turn its attention to training over the holiday break, with its next competition taking place Jan. 14 in a tri-meet at Indiana State with Southern Illinois.
