Chaye's Records Guide S&D On Day 1 At Miami Invite
December 02, 2022 | Men's Swimming and Diving
OXFORD, Ohio - - It was quite the day for Ball State senior freestyle sprint specialist Owen Chaye who broke the program record in the 50 freestyle twice and added a record in the 200 freestyle to open the three-day Miami Invitational.
Â
Chaye started his day with a program-record time of 20.04 in the 50 freestyle prelims, topping his own mark of 20.11 set at last season's Mid-American Conference Championships.
Â
His day only got better from there, as Chaye turned in a double record to help Ball State win the 200 freestyle relay, with an opening split of 19.91.
Â
That effort was another new 50 freestyle mark and the first sub 20 second time in program history. It also paved the way for senior Jack Wolfred, freshman Jacob Siewers, and junior Joey Garberick to wrap up a program-record mark of 1:20.21 in the event.
Â
Chaye would go on to complete the day with a first-place time of 20.05 in the individual 50 free.
Â
Day two of the Miami Invitational, which sees the Cardinals in third place among the eight-team field, gets underway at 9 a.m. Friday with preliminary action. Finals are set for 5 p.m.
