Payton Kelly Nabs Second MAC Swimmer Of The Week Honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - Freshman Payton Kelly has made the most of her first two meets for Ball State, claiming five individual event wins and now a pair of Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week awards.

Kelly earned her second award after sweeping the freestyle sprints in last Saturday's league dual versus Akron.

In helping Ball State to a near upset of the defending MAC Championships, Kelly started her day with a first-place time of 1:52.48 in the 200 freestyle. Three events later, she picked up her second win of the day by touching the wall in 23.57 in the 50 freestyle.

Payton, who missed BSU's meets versus Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green to compete in the FINA World Cup in Toronto, closed the individual portion of her day by winning the 100 freestyle in 51.74.

She was not done there, however, as Payton went on to swim anchor for the first-place 400 freestyle relay which earned a nearly five-second victory by timing out at 3:27.48.

Payton and the rest of the Ball State swimming & diving program will be back in action Friday with a 4 p.m. dual at IUPUI.
