Ball State set for second indoor meet of the season
MUNCIE, Ind. – After a month break between meets, the Ball State track and field team is set to compete in the Jim Green Invitational Friday and Saturday. Hosted by the University of Kentucky at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., field events begin Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET, while the track events start at 4 p.m. Saturday's schedule begins at 11 a.m. and is set to conclude with the 4x400 meter relay at 4 p.m.
"I'm very excited for this weekend and have been waiting on it for a while after having a month off," sophomore Alexis Thigpen said. "I'm excited for the team to start the year off and get ready to go."
Junior Grace Dean shared the elation with her teammates.
"I'm super excited. It will be very exciting to be out there with the team. We have a lot of potential this season. I think we can get some good marks and times this weekend to start off this semester really well."
Personal bests highlighted the first indoor meet of the season at the Hoosier Open, including Thigpen setting a mark of 25.43 in the 200-meter dash to kick off her second season with the Cardinals.
"My sophomore year has gone better than my freshman year," Thigpen added. "My first year, I was new and nervous. It was a new experience with college being different from high school. Because I have more experience, I feel more ready to go and mentally and physically prepared that what I was last year."
The experience will come in handy as Ball State sprints full speed ahead with meets in five consecutive weekends after a month away from the track.
"We had a month off in winter training, so we trained on our own," Dean said. "Now we're back with the team. It's a lot of practice and weights, but we're super excited. We'll be strong each week practicing together and working together in workouts and also competing we'll get better each time."
Admission this weekend to the Nutter Field House is free and masks are required indoors.
