August 02, 2021 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. - - Ball State men's golf tied a program record it set last season with six student-athletes named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Â
Earning the honor for the Cardinals were redshirt senior Tyler Green, seniors Jack Cunningham and CJ Jones, juniors Yianni Kostouros and Joey Ranieri, as well as sophomore Joey Wiseman.
Â
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAAÂ Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
Â
In addition, they must participate in 40-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Â
For the 2020-2021 season only, if a candidate was previously named an All-America Scholar and meets the minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2, he will be eligible for the award without submission of scoring average and participation percentage. This includes all programs, including candidates from programs that did not compete during the 2020-21 season.
Â
Cunningham, Green, Jones, Kostouros and Ranieri earned the award for the second consecutive season, while Wiseman is a first-time honoree. The individual honors come on the heels of the squad earning the 2020-21 GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award last week after finishing the academic year with a 3.466 GPA.
Â
After being limited to just spring competition this past season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Ball State men's golf team will open its traditional fall slate Sept. 5-6 at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational hosted at the Pfau Course at Indiana University. Â
