Men’s Golf Adds Nicolas Osterburg & Andrew Sapp To Their 2021 Staff
August 13, 2021 | Men's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State head men's golf coach Mike Fleck, who is in his 24th season with the Cardinals has added graduate assistant Nicolas Osterburg and volunteer assistant coach Andrew Sapp to his 2021-22 coaching staff.
Osterburg comes to Ball State after playing four seasons at the University of Cincinnati. The Indianapolis native attended Perry Meridian High School where he garnered all-state accolades during his junior and senior seasons. In high school, Osterburg also claimed sectional medalist honors, all-county and all-conference honors four times while finishing second at the 2017 IHSAA State Boys Golf Tournament as a senior with a 4-under par (140).
"We are excited to welcome Nick to our Ball State family as a graduate assistant coach," Fleck said. "Nick joins us from the University of Cincinnati where he was a member of a successful men's golf program led by Coach Doug Martin. Nick is an Indiana junior golf product and will bring very valuable perspective to our young men from his collegiate experiences as a Division I student-athlete."
Sapp brings a wealth of coaching experience to Ball State after having head coaching stints at East Carolina University (2017-21), his alma mater North Carolina (2012-17), and the University of Michigan (2002-11). He is also familiar with the state of Indiana as he was a part of the Purdue coaching staff in the early 2000's.
Sapp has also served as the President of the Golf Coaches Association of America from 2016-18.
"We are fortunate to have Andrew join our program as a volunteer assistant coach," Fleck said. "Coach Sapp has experienced the highest levels of success on the Division I stage and has worked with many elite players over the years. His wealth of knowledge and understanding of the collegiate game and players will be an asset when working with our student-athletes. We are really excited to have him as part of our family and coaching staff here at Ball State."
The Ball State men's golf team will open fall play the weekend of Sept. 5-6 at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational hosted by Indiana University at the PFAU Golf Course.
