MAC Announces Reinstatement of Postseason Tournaments

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The MAC Council of Presidents approved a recommendation from the Council of Directors of Athletics concerning reinstatement of the following postseason tournaments, beginning with the 2021-22 academic year. In addition to the reinstatement of these tournaments, the volleyball tournament field has been expanded from 4 to 6 teams.

STATEMENT FROM BALL STATE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS BETH GOETZ:
"The ultimate goal for any student-athlete is to be in a position to compete for a championship. Our student-athletes spend countless hours training and honing their skills to represent Ball State University at an elite level. I am thrilled to see these championship opportunities return, as they provide meaningful competitive experiences and memories to last a lifetime."

The Conference explored returning postseason tournaments that were paused for the 2020-21 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
"At my direction, I asked our Championship staff to create models of how we could return our postseason events," said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. "Conference tournaments are pinnacle events that provide lifetime memories for those involved. I am pleased we are able to reinstate these events for the student-athletes."

- Tournament Field – Four (4) Teams

- Tournament Field – Four (4) Teams. Divisional champions plus the next two best winning percentages regardless of division.
- Tournament Host – Previous year regular season champion (#1 Seed)
Softball
