Men’s Tennis Cracks Year-End ITA Rankings

Cardinals one of three MAC teams to finish in top 60
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's tennis team finished the 2021 season in the year-end Oracle ITA national rankings revealed this week.
The Cardinals checked in at No. 58 as one of three MAC programs in the top 60 in an impressive year for the league. Western Michigan was No. 44, and Northern Illinois was No. 60.
More than 250 schools compete in men's tennis at the Division I level, and 75 are ranked in the final Oracle ITA national rankings.
"This final ranking is quite an accomplishment for our team," BSU head coach Bill Richards said. "It's very difficult to crack into the top 60. While we were bitterly disappointed we couldn't bring home a MAC championship, this is a nice reward for a very good year.
"These rankings also show the strength of the conference with three teams ranked in the top 60. That is very rare for a non-Power 5 conference."
Ball State finished the season at 17-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Cardinals won 10 consecutive matches at one point, including a victory over a Notre Dame team that ended the year at No. 33 in the rankings.
