That has allowed BSU to keep pace with preseason favorite Central Michigan (12-4) atop the standings. This weekend is the third of BSU's five home league series this season, with Kent State and Miami still to visit Muncie in May.

Northern Illinois (6-10) is 9th in the MAC, three games out of 5th place. NIU owns the worst W-L percentage in the league (.233). BSU is 3rd in the MAC in team ERA (4.00) and NIU is 10th (6.96). The Ball State baseball team will be at home for the first time in 20 days when it hosts Northern Illinois this weekend. The Saturday and Sunday games will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
