DEKALB, Ill. - The Cardinals (15-5, 4-4 MAC) closed out a tough three-game road stretch Sunday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at Northern Illinois (21-2, 7-1 MAC) . Despite Ball State's efforts, the Cardinals unfortunately fell to the Huskies today by a score of 5-2.
Northern Illinois took the early 1-0 edge over Ball State after earning wins on courts three and two, respectively.
After that, veteran Chris Adams evened the score at one apiece after his straight set (6-2, 6-1) take down over NIU's Mikko Malinen at the No. 3 singles position.
Sophomore Eli Herran, who has had a very successful spring, gave BSU its first lead of the contest after defeating the Huskies Mikael Vollback on court five, 7-5, 6-4.
With the victory on the line, the remaining four courts had gone into three sets. Thibault de Negri, Danilo Kovacevic, Sajin Smith and Parrish Simmons were all in a nail biter situation as time was winding down but the Huskies prevailed in all four matches to seal today's victory.
