KENT, Ohio - This time of year in college gymnastics, good scores are like gold and Ball State gymnastics added to its season fortune on Sunday afternoon. BSU, 34th in the nation this week, recorded a 195.725 mark at Kent State.
"We went out there and had fun,"Â head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We did a great job and kept the focus on us and didn't worry about anything else going on. When you have a great team dynamic like we have right now, you see a performance like this. It's cool to be a part of it with this team."
In the head-to-head scoring, BSU outpaced Kent State 195.725 - 194.675. Ball State had the higher score in three of four events and had an individual at the top of the list in all four events. Ball State is 13-1 head-to-head this season, with the only loss coming last week vs. Western Michigan.Â
The Cardinals started strong on bars and vault, with seven routines of 9.775 or better. Marissa Nychyk's 9.850 score was the best on vault and Grace Evans was first on bars with a 9.825 mark.Â
"We had a phenomenal vault rotation," Saleem said.
Arden Hudson, who had a 9.725 or better in all three of her events, won beam with a 9.825 score. Five of six Cardinals stayed on the beam, leading to a team score of 48.850 on that rotation. Claudia Goyco went 9.900 on floor, tying for first place.Â
The Cardinals have one more road meet before the MAC Championships on March 20. BSU will compete at Central Michigan Saturday, March 13 in a quad meet with the three Michigan schools.Â
