Cardinals Cruise in First of Back-to-Back with IUPUI
March 05, 2021 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. -- It was like a race to see who could finish her match faster Friday night. Rebecca Herrington versus Mariya Polishchuk.
Â
Neither one lasted anywhere near an hour. And in the end, they wound up finishing within less than a minute of each other.
Â
Herrington blanked her opponent in both sets at the No. 4 singles position, and Polishchuk dropped just one game at the No. 2 spot.
Â
That pair helped the Ball State women's tennis team to its eighth straight win, a 6-1 victory over IUPUI. The teams will meet again Saturday at 2 p.m., moving outdoors for the first time this season to Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Â
Ball State (8-2)Â Â also picked up straight-set singles victories Friday from Emma Peeler at No. 1, Emily Desai at No. 5 and Victoria Sec at No. 6. Desai was the third singles match off the court and was the match-clincher for the Cardinals.
Â
BSU also won the doubles point from the Jaguars (2-3), with the tandems of Jessica Braun and Silvia Martinez and Sec and Livia Lukacs cruising to clinch the point and the team of Peeler and Amy Kaplan winning in a tiebreaker for a clean sweep.
Â
Saturday's rematch with IUPUI will serve as Ball State's final tuneup for MAC play. The Cardinals visit Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 12 for their league opener.
