OXFORD, Ohio - - It was a great day for Ball State senior diver Caitlin Locante Friday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center, as she turned in a pair of school-record performances to lead the Cardinals at the Miami Last Chance Meet.
Â
Thanks to her record-setting effort, Locante swept both diving events for the second time this season at Miami. Her most impressive effort came on the 3-meter board with her mark of 347.78 shattering her previous program record of 323.625 set versus UIndy on Jan. 16.
Â
The effort was also a NCAA Zone Diving "A" cut, giving her the top cut on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. That was not her only school record, as Locante won the 1-meter competition on Friday with a score of 305.48. The effort moves her past Beth Clark's old mark of 301.875 set in 1997.
Â
Locante was not the only women's diver to shine at Miami, however, as sophomore Madison Gatzlaff moved into third in program history on the 3-meter board with a NCAA Zone Diving "B" cut score of 313.13.
Â
Freshman Riley Bullock also had a strong outing, recording an NCAA Zone Diving "C" cut of 260.03 on the 1-meter board.
Â
On the men's side, junior Hunter Ongay climbed to sixth in program history by winning the 3-meter competition with a NCAA Zone Diving "C" cut score of 325.35.
Â
Sophomore Wyatt Blake completed Ball State's sweep of the days diving events by winning the 1-meter board with a mark of 280.20.
Â
The Ball State men's swimming & diving program wraps up its pre-MAC Championship slate next Saturday (March 6) with another meet at Miami. The women's squad returns to action Match 14 at Akron.
