Fifth-year WR had 187 all-purpose yards and a TD vs. Army
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ball State wide receiver Justin Hall was selected to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll following his performance in a win vs. Army, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday.
Hall racked up 187 all-purpose yards, highlighted by returning the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. It was his first career return of a touchdown and first time a Cardinal and taken it to the house since Malik Dunner at Western Michigan (Nov. 5, 2019, 100 yards).
The 99-yard yard scamper is currently the fifth-longest play in program history, trailing only four 100-yard kickoff returns. With the touchdown, Army trailed for the first time all season, and Ball State maintained that lead for the duration of the game.
The Douglasville, Ga. native also hauled in all seven of his targets for 78 yards and added three yards on the ground in addition to seven punt return yards.
After five weeks into the 2021 season, Hall is averaging 141.6 all-purpose yards per game, good for 14th-most in the country and first in the Mid-American Conference. Hall is second in the country in average all-purpose yards among players who have logged at least one yard through rushing, receiving, punt return and kickoff return.
The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. Each week during the regular season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance. A national selection committee comprised of 17 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 18th vote.
