Men’s Tennis Inks Indiana Native Petar Petrovic
January 07, 2021 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State men's tennis head coach Bill Richards announced the signing of Indiana native Petar Petrovic (Brownsburgh, Ind./Brownsburg) to a national letter of Intent. Petrovic joins early signee Nathaniel Webster (Kalamazoo, Mich./Mattawan High School) for the 2021 class.
"I'm very happy that Petar has decided to become a part of our program," Richards said. "He is an excellent student and tennis player. He will be a nice addition to our team. He has a lot of experience and good results on a regional and national level. He is a very hard worker and great competitor. The number of USTA (United States Tennis Association) tournaments he plays on a yearly basis really shows his love of the game and his desire to continue to improve. To add another 4-star recruit to our team is very exciting and certainly will help us in future years."
A four-time First Team All-State selection, Petrovic finished his high school career as the runner-up at the 2020 IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletics Association) State Singles Championship, losing the battle in three sets. Petrovic made history by becoming the first Brownsburg High School boy's tennis player to ever become a state singles finalist. He also helped Brownsburg to their first-ever IHSAA semi-state title in 2020.
The Ball State men's tennis team will open its spring 2021 schedule with a double header at the University of Notre Dame on Jan. 20. The first match is set to begin at noon in South Bend, Ind., and the matinee competition will start at 5 p.m. ET.
