Cardinals Continue To Set Records In The Classroom

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State student-athletes turned in another record-breaking effort in the classroom during the 2020 fall semester, finishing with a 3.38 term grade point average (GPA).

Almost 60 percent of Ball State's student-athletes (260) earned a spot on the Dean's List with a semester GPA at or above 3.5. In addition, 72 Cardinals finished the fall with a 4.0 term GPA, while 353 earned at least a 3.0.

"I am extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes," Ball State Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said. "Achieving such a high level of success both in the classroom and on the field of play while navigating the challenges of the pandemic, speaks volumes about their character and perseverance."

For the third straight semester, the women's tennis team earned the highest mark with a 3.78 term GPA. They were not alone at the top this time, however, as women's golf and soccer also boasted a combined 3.78 term GPA.

Overall, all 11 of Ball State's varsity women's squads (indoor and outdoor track combined) tallied at least a 3.05 term GPA, with seven teams at 3.7-or-better. Joining the top women's squads were field hockey (3.76 GPA), volleyball (3.74), cross country (3.72) and swimming & diving (3.70).

Among the seven men's sports, volleyball paved the way with a 3.59 term GPA. Men's tennis and golf were not far behind at 3.52 and 3.46, respectively.

In addition to the record term numbers, Ball State's student-athletes raised their overall cumulative GPAs to 3.35. The women's tennis team tops the list at 3.79, while volleyball once again paces the men at 3.55.Â

A total of 17 varsity teams currently have a cumulative team GPA above 3.0, while 355 student-athletes carry a cumulative GPA at or above 3.0.

After the 2020 fall semester, 40 Ball State student-athletes maintain a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.
