January 16, 2021 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Senior diver Caitlin Locante made the most of her senior day, winning the 3m diving competition with a program record and NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score of 323.625 Saturday afternoon at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
"We were really excited with the progress we saw today," head coach J. Agnew said after the meet. "The divers were fantastic and we are excited about what we saw. The team's been really consistent in their training and it showed today."
Locante would make it a clean sweep, also picking up the 1m victory with a score of 253.425, to help the women's squad top UIndy by a score of 24-13.
Â
"It's been a tough semester for Caitlin, battling some injuries, and for her to throw up a school record on senior day is awesome," Agnew added.
On the men's side, junior Hunter Ongay turned in a solid performance on the 3m board as well, winning the event with a score of 282.075. In addition, Ongay just missed a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark on the 1m board, placing second at 294.255.
Â
Unfortunately, the men's squad would suffer a narrow 19-18 setback to the Greyhounds.
Â
Sophomore Madison Gatzlaff also turned in a solid performance for the women, placing second on the 3m board (260.25) and fourth on the 1m board (210.00).
Â
Freshman Isaac Hunter also dove for the men, placing third on the 3m board (245.85) and fourth on the 1m board (245.85).
Â
The Ball State men's divers are schedule to return to action Jan. 31 at the Butler Invite, while a Feb. 12 dual meet at Miami is up next for the women's divers.
