January 14, 2021 | Baseball
The 2021 season will surely look different from past years, but the Ball State baseball team has never shied away from a challenge. A schedule with 55 games is planned and baseball season is coming soon.Â
"We are excited to announce our schedule for the 2021 season," head coach Rich Maloney said as he prepares for his 16th season in Muncie. "With COVID protocols, everything is subject to change but we're hopeful for our boys to play a full schedule after losing the 2020 season to the pandemic."

The season begins Friday, Feb. 19 with a four-game set at Arizona - who will be ranked in all national polls -Â and also features a return to the Swig & Swine Classic in Charleston and road series at Kentucky and Old Dominion.
The biggest differences this season will come in conference play, as the MAC is planning to play 10 four-game series for a total of 40 conference games. There are no midweek games on the schedule currently. Additionally, the regular season champion will earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Regional - there is no conference tournament.Â
The home opener at First Merchants Ballpark Complex is set for March 19 when Western Michigan visits. BSU's home conference opponents after WMU are Toledo, Northern Illinois, Kent State and Miami. The Cards have probably MAC favorite Central Michigan on the road May 7-9 and will also travel to Akron, Eastern Michigan, Ohio and Bowling Green. With 11 conference teams, there's also one team with an open weekend. The first weekend in April is open for Ball State, which will play Butler in a series with two games in Muncie.Â
All game dates and times are subject to change.Â
