Favorite Four: Janae Hogg - Softball
August 26, 2020 | Softball
Photos play an important role in everyone's life, allowing us to relive some of our fondest memories and reminding us of special people, places or stories from our past.
Â
Our student-athletes are no different, and over the coming weeks we will highlight some of their favorite images captured during their time as Cardinals.
Â
From battling it out on the field of competition, to just hanging out with their teammates, you will get a glimpse of some of the special moments in our student-athletes' lives in a new feature called "Favorite Four."
Â
One of the top power hitters in program history, ranking fourth with 36 career home runs, Janae Hogg (2017-Present) gets a second shot as a senior season in 2021 after the COVID-19 global pandemic shortened the 2020 campaign.
Hogg has been a cornerstone of the powerful Ball State offense over her career, ranking eighth on the Cardinals'Â career charts in both slugging percentage (.562) and on base percentage (.414). She is also ninth in RBIs (115) and has made an impact on defense too, ranking 13th by having a hand in 20 career double plays.

"Family Support"
I am blessed to have a family that supports me the way they do. They travel as much as they can to watch me play. Ever since my freshman year, they've made it work to come to just about every single game. I am super thankful they have been able to support me the way they do. I wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for them. They're why I play today. I play to make them proud of my accomplishments.
Â
"Emotions of the Game"
Showing emotion during games is something I love to do, especially when hitting. I remember this game, we were down 2-0, playing NC State, and I came up and blasted a 3-run home run. I love the excitement I bring to each game. Seeing this picture always brings me joy because it reminds me of how much I love the game and how blessed I am to get another year to compete.
"Smile"
No matter who is playing beside, in front, or behind me, I always try and keep it light. I love to make my teammates smile on the field no matter the situation. I try to make jokes or just talk them up whether they listen to me or not. This is one of my favorite pictures because Alyssa is someone I have to keep loose. I'm constantly trying to make her laugh to just stay relaxed. I love to have my teammates backs, and I talk nonstop to them to ensure they know too.
Â
"No Holding Us Back"Â
Every game, we try to be on Cloud 9. We get so excited our coach has to hold us back, and that's what I love about softball. I love teammates who get just as hype as me, that we have no control over what we are doing. The game we play, is always going to have its ups and downs, but when we can outweigh the downs, and keep this energy, we are unstoppable. The excitement we bring to each and every game only allows us to succeed even more on the field.
