Previous Top Mark Set in Spring of 2019
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State student-athletes came through in their academic studies during the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring semester by setting a record with a 3.32 term grade point average (GPA).
Nearly 60 percent of the student-athletes (254) earned a spot on the Dean's List with a semester GPA at or above 3.5. Seventy-four Cardinals came away with a 4.0 GPA in the spring while 15 student-athletes still carry a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA following the conclusion of the semester. Sixty-two BSU athletes completed their bachelor's degree while two others wrapped up a master's degree.
"For our student-athletes to achieve such a high level of academic success in the face of the challenges this past semester is truly amazing," Ball State Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said. "We couldn't be more proud of them for persevering through these unique times."
For the second straight semester, the women's tennis team posted the highest mark among all 18 varsity squads (indoor and outdoor track combined) with a 3.81 term GPA. When the spring sports season was halted, the women's tennis team was riding a four-match winning streak and sat with a 10-2 overall record.
Women's tennis narrowly topped women's golf (3.77 GPA), gymnastics (3.76), field hockey (3.75) and soccer (3.75) for the top spring GPA mark. The women's golf team ended the semester with the best cumulative GPA (3.67).
Among the seven men's sports, the tennis Cardinals had the highest term GPA (3.73) and the volleyball team posted the best cumulative GPA (3.44).
Seventeen varsity teams currently have a cumulative team GPA at or better than a 3.0. More than 300 student-athletes (318) carry a cumulative GPA at or better than the 3.0 threshold.
