Five Football Cardinals Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society
April 15, 2020 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Five recent Ball State football players were recognized by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) on the 2020 NFF Hampshire Honor Society list Wednesday. The honorees comprise college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained at least a cumulative 3.2 grade point average throughout their college careers.
Wide receiver Riley Miller, offensive linemen Danny Pinter, Andrew Poenitsch and Zac Ricketts, and tight end Kyle Schrank were the Ball State representatives on the prestigious list.
All five players were key contributors to a Ball State offense that led the Mid-American Conference in scoring (34.8 points per game) and total offense (463.0 yards per game) last fall. Miller tied for the team lead with six touchdown catches and finished second in receiving yards (612). Pinter was a starter at right tackle in all 12 games and went on to display his skills in the NFL Combine in February.
Poenitsch was the team's number one center the last three seasons and also earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Ricketts split time between left and right guard the last three years. He helped the Cards rush for more than 200 yards in seven of the eight league games in 2019.
Finally, Schrank was a consistent contributor at tight end throughout his time at BSU as he missed only one of 48 games dating back to 2016.
Members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2019 (graduated players who have remaining eligibility but will not return may be included), been a starter or a significant contributor during the 2019 season, achieved a 3.2 GPA throughout their entire course of undergraduate study and met all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.
Ball State opens the 2020 season on Thursday, Sept. 3 with a home game against Maine.
