March 05, 2020 | Women's Tennis
LA JOLLA, Calif. - Today began the Cardinals first competition on their spring break trip out west with a 6-1 victory over UC San Diego. Ball State improved to 9-2 overall with the win while the Triton's fell to 4-5 on the year. Today's match was the first competition the Cardinals have played outdoors so far this season.
Ball State moved ahead of UC San Diego fairly quickly, after taking all three doubles courts from the Triton's. The top two matches were the first to finish both winning their competitions by a score of 6-1. On the top court, Emma Peeler alongside teammate Livia Lukacs clinched the doubles victory for Ball State while the No. 3 slot, Jessica Braun and Rebecca Herrington did not give up a game over the Triton's Chloe Wright and Julianna Sabile sweeping the match, 6-0.
In singles play, position five would be the first finish off the court, as Emily Desai defeated Anu Bhadada by a 6-2 decision in both frames. Herrington gave the Cardinals a 3-0 cushion after her 6-2, 6-0 take down on court three over Valerie Corra. On the top court, Peeler claimed match point for Ball State, winning in straight sets over Becky Chou, 6-4, 6-4. Lukacs and Victoria Sec earned two more points for the Cardinals on courts four and six, respectively, both in two sets.
The Ball State women's tennis team closes its spring break trip Thursday when it plays at the University of California Riverside at 2 p.m. PT and 5 p.m. ET.
