Peltier Primed For Bigger Role This Season
February 09, 2020 | Baseball
Some kids grow up watching cartoons. Some grow up playing tag in the front yard or riding a tricycle. Others might grow up playing with fire trucks or tractors. But for some, they grow up throwing a five-ounce, white with red stitching, baseball.
Â
For Ball State sophomore infielder Ryan Peltier, it was no question where he would turn to. "Ever since I could walk, I've had a ball in my hand. I picked up a baseball when I was a little kid and it's something that has been with me ever since," Peltier said.
Â
Peltier helped the Cardinals to a 38-19 record last year in his freshman season. He contributed in 42 games with 26 starts, mainly at third base, adding 12 RBIs, 14 runs scored and six extra-base hits. Peltier broke out in BSU's win over Notre Dame, recording his first two collegiate hits, one of those being a home run. He added three hits in three at bats in the Cardinals' win over Mount St. Mary's and on April 28, the Cardinals defeated Bowling Green 2-1 where Peltier was responsible for both runs.
Â
Peltier is primed for a bigger role this spring after coming off a strong fall season where he led the Cardinals in hits, RBIs and home runs.
Â
His work ethic and drive toward becoming a better player shines through, but what inspired his passion for baseball? Easy, his dad.
Â
"My dad was a big baseball player growing up and that was his sport. He started me off with everything as a kid and I look up to my dad," Peltier said.
Â
His dad may have inspired him to start playing but once Peltier started, he never stopped even through failure or low points. Â
Â
"Baseball comes with a lot of failure. I've failed plenty of times, so I'm used to it and I'm not going to let that take me from playing the game. I'm all in," Peltier said.
Â
Peltier will keep that same drive and determination as the Cardinals travel to Statesboro, Georgia on Feb. 14 for opening weekend against the Georgia Southern Eagles.
