Hudson Ties School Balance Beam Record
February 09, 2020 | Gymnastics
Arden Hudson's school-record beam routine was the bright spot in Ball State's meet at Western Michigan on Sunday. Hudson, a junior from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, posted a 9.900 to tie for first place and tie the Ball State school record.
"It was a gorgeous routine. It was a lot of fun," head coach Joanna Saleem said.Â
"I knew my team needed a good score and I told myself it was just another routine and I went up there and had fun," Hudson said.
Hudson is the seventh gymnast in school history to score a 9.900 on beam and her routine was the eighth 9.900 score on beam ever. Baylee Bell, a 2018 alum, is the only Card to hit 9.900 on beam twice. Hudson also delivered a 9.800 on vault, tying for third place.
"We saw some great individual routines. We continue to run smoothly on our vault," Saleem said.

The Cardinals' scores dipped a bit from last week at Denver, but the margin is slim. A few minor corrections and Saleem feels good about where the team is headed as it nears the halfway point of the meet season. Western Michigan swept the individual events and won the head-to-head scoring 195.750Â -Â 193.775. WMU had nine routines of 9.800 or better, compared to Ball State's six.
Marissa Nychyk (9.750) and Megan Teter (9.700) led the team on bars and Claudia Goyco continued her strong floor routine with a 9.825 score. Four different Cardinals were 9.800 or better on vault.
"We just had a few more errors today than we usually have. Now we have to learn something from it," she said. "We have to come back here (to WMU) at the end of the season. How do we take what we do in our practice venue and bring it out onto the floor? There's a lot of good potential for this team."
The MAC Championships will be held at Western Michigan Saturday, March 23.
Fans can catch Ball State gymnastics at home each of the next two Sundays. The Cardinals host Eastern Michigan Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. and have another home meet Sunday, Feb. 23.
