February 29, 2020 | Women's Swimming and Diving
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team concluded its season Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

Ball State finished eighth overall in the team standings with 223 points. Akron won the championships with 811.5 total points. Full standings are listed below.

1. Akron 811.5
2. Buffalo 738.5
3. Eastern Michigan 485
4. Miami 408
5. Bowling Green 293.5
6. Toledo 283
7. Ohio 262.5
8. Ball State 223

"While we are all disappointed to finish eighth, we grew a lot as a team this weekend," said head coach J. Agnew. "Last year, we only had five individual swims in finals and finished with 148 points as a team. This year we put up 223 points and had 16 individual swims in finals. Our divers showed their strength with all three scoring points and Rachel and Caitlin earning spots in the championship finals. We have a lot of work to do, but I love this team and we are taking big strides forward."

The Cardinal swimmers earned five B-Final appearances Saturday including Alex Bader and Alexa McDonald in the 200 Breast and Sydney Dygert, Phoebe Rensink and Sophie Bader in the 200 Fly. All three of the 200 Fly participants recorded lifetime bests in the preliminaries.

Alex Bader went on to finish third in the 200 Breast with McDonald not far behind in fifth. Sophie Bader, Dygert and Rensink finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200 Fly.

Saturday marks the end of Ball State's season, though some swimmers will compete at the National Invitational Championship at Cleveland State in mid-March. Divers Rachel Bertram and Caitlin Locante will compete in NCAA Diving Zones.
