Moritz Leads Women’s Golf into Contention at Rio Verde; Saturday Washed Out

Cardinals best seven of other eight MAC schools competing on day one

RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Hadley Moritz fired an opening-round 74 on Friday to lead the Ball State women's golf team into contention on day one of the Rio Verde Invitational.
The Cardinals are fourth in the 18-team field on the White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club. Moritz is tied for 11th among the 95 golfers competing and is just three shots off the lead shared by Grayson Gladden of Arkansas State and Elizabeth Win of Seton Hall.
Xavier sits atop the team leaderboard after an opening-round 297. Arkansas State (299) and Northern Illinois (302) were the only other teams better than Ball State's 305 on day one.
The Cardinals also counted a trio of 77's from Liz Kim, Manon Tounalom and Tiegan Taylor on their way to an opening-round score better than seven of the other eight MAC schools competing this week.
