DENVER - Flying across the country and competing in a meet with the No. 5 team in the nation, the Ball State gymnastics team answered the bell and turned in its best performance of the year. The Cardinals totaled a 194.875 score to place second in the three-team meet Sunday afternoon.

"Our team really stuck together and finished strong," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We have some things to clean up, but we are in good spirits and had a great trip."
Like they've done all season, the Cardinals made their mark in the floor exercise and on the vault. Stefanie Schweikert landed a 9.850 on vault and Bri Slonim, Arden Hudson and Marissa Nychyk each went 9.825. All six vaulters were at least 9.725 on vault.Â
The floor rotation was even better. Saleem said Schweikert's floor routine "was the most beautiful I've seen her do." Schweikert earned a team-best 9.875 mark and the Cards as a team totaled 49.200. All six Cards were 9.700 or better on floor.Â
Hudson's 9.825 on beam was fourth overall and the best mark on the team. Hudson also led the team with a 9.725 routine on bars.Â
In all, BSU's 194.875 was just behind No. 5 Denver's 197.425. Air Force was third (193.825).
The Cardinals, now 6-2 on the year, will compete at Western Michigan next weekend and the next Ball State home meet will be Sunday, Feb. 16.Â
