Â
The other candidates are Ian Book of Notre Dame, Justin Field of Ohio State, Layne Hatcher of Arkansas State, Preston Hutchinson of Eastern Michigan, Mac Jones of Alabama, Brock Purdy of Iowa State and Kyle Trask of Florida.
Â
Plitt threw for a season-high 366 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns Saturday in a 45-20 victory at Central Michigan that kept Ball State in control of its own destiny for a MAC West Division championship. He shares this week's MAC West honor with Hutchinson who directed EMU to a win over Western Michigan.
Â
Plitt threw for a season-best four touchdowns at CMU -- two to Jalen McGaughy and one each to Yo'Heinz Tyler and Dylan Koch -- while also rushing for a score for the second straight week. With 29 yards on the ground, Plitt accounted for 395 total yards in the win.Â
Â
The redshirt senior from Loveland, Ohio, moved into a tie for fifth with his head coach Mike Neu on BSU's career touchdown passes list with 43.
Â
Plitt has now earned West Division weekly honors five times in his career. He is a candidate for this year's Manning Award presented to the nation's top quarterback. Finalists are scheduled to be announced in mid-December, and the winner will be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Â
Ball State (4-1, 4-1 MAC) will host Western Michigan (4-1, 4-1 MAC) at noon Saturday with the division title and a spot in the MAC Championship Game on the line. The game is available on ESPN+ and via the Ball State Radio Network at 104.1 WLBC. Click here to find out how you can be involved in a virtual version of the annual Social Sellout that day.
