Opening Tip:
- Ball State and IUPUI have met six times, with the Cardinals leading the all-time series, 5-1. Ball State and IUPUI's last meeting was in 2019 in Indianapolis. The Cardinals fell to the Jaguars, 48-65.Â
- Brady Sallee is 11-13 all-time at Ball State against teams from the state of Indiana.
- Both schools' opened their respective seasons on Nov. 25. The Cardinals fell to IUPUI's Horizon League affiliated member Milwaukee, 56-67 while the Jaguars opened up at one of our Mid-American Conference members Northern Illinois. IUPUI defeated the Huskies, 85-61, in DeKalb, Ill.
- At Milwaukee, Thelma Dis Agustsdottir was the leading scorer for the Cardinals, dropping in 19 points and added seven rebounds.Â
- The Cardinals are 5-3 under Brady Sallee in home openers.
- Prior to last Wednesday's tipoff the Cardinals were told the news that junior guard Essence Booker received an NCAA waiver to be immediately eligible for the 2020-21 season. Booker scored nine points for the Cardinals at Milwaukee and played approximately 34 minutes.
- Ball State has already had a schedule change. The Cardinals will now host Eastern Michigan for their Mid-American Conference opener this Wednesday in Worthen Arena at 6 p.m. ET.
Home Sweet Home:
John E. Worthen Arena has been very good to the Cardinals for the past decade. Ball State has a record of 149-75 (.649) at Worthen Arena from 2004-present. In eight seasons Brady Sallee has compiled a 81-39 (.667)Â record in Worthen Arena. His best season at home was in 2017-18 when the Cardinals went 15-3 in Muncie. Last year the Cardinals finished with a 12-1 ledger in Worthen Arena and a 9-0 league mark.
Scouting the Jaguars:
- IUPUI's head coach is Austin Parkinson, he is entering his 11th year at the helm of the Jaguars. He led his team last year to its first regular season conference title and conference tournament title. Parkinson was named Horizon League Coach of the Year for the second time in the last three seasons after guiding IUPUI to its first NCAA Tournament berth.
- The Jaguars will be led by Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year Macee Williams and Preseason Second Team All-League member Rachel McLimore.
- Parkinson is the son of Bruce Parkinson, Purdue's all-time assists leader and member of the Indiana Highschool basketball Hall of Fame. His father went to Yorktown High School in Yorktown, Indiana where Ball State head coach Brady Sallee's three children attend. The distance between Yorktown and Muncie is 7.6 miles.
