WBB’s Oshlynn Brown Tabbed To Preseason All-MAC; Cardinals Picked Third
November 19, 2020 | Women's Basketball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Oshlynn Brown (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) has been selected for the second straight season as a member of the 2020-21 preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team while the Cardinals were picked to finish third in league action, as announced by the conference office today.
Brown enters her senior season with 1,088 points, 836 rebounds, 33 double-doubles, 40 double-digit rebounding performances and 58 double-digit scoring games. Last year she was tabbed First Team All-MAC and earned MAC West Division Player of the Week accolades four times.
In 2019-20, Brown reached the 1,000-point plateau at Eastern Michigan (Feb. 22), making her the 28th member to join the program's elite club. Brown wrapped up the year ranked 15th nationally in defensive rebounds and was 16th among all NCAA Division I players with her 16 double-doubles. Brown turned in a career-high 29-point performance in an overtime win at Bowling Green (Jan. 8) and reached double-digits 22 times last season.
The Cardinals were picked to finish third in the preseason MAC standings behind Central Michigan (1) and Ohio (2). Ball State also earned one vote to win the 2021 MAC Tournament.
Ball State has a lot to look forward to this season after ninth-year head coach Brady Sallee guided his team to a 21-10 overall record last year, with 13 more wins than they had in 2018-19 (8-23). The 13-game turnaround led all NCAA Division I women's basketball programs and ranks 30th all-time in NCAA history.
Ball State ended the 2019-20 campaign ranked 10th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (30.2), 11th in free throws attempts (655) and 49th in both field goal percentage defense (36.8) and 3-point defense (28.8). BSU went 13-4 last year in two-possession games, posted a 5-3 mark in one-possession contests and was 2-1 in overtime games.
Ball State earned the No. 2 seed in the 2020 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 13-5 league record, marking the sixth time in Sallee's tenure the Cardinals have punched their ticket straight to the MAC Tournament in Cleveland.
The Cardinals won their 20th game of the season on Feb. 29 against MAC champion Central Michigan, making Sallee the only head coach in program history to have four 20-win seasons —21-9 (2015-16), 21-10 (2016-17), 25-8 (2017-18) and 21-10 (2019-20).
The Ball State women's basketball team will travel to UW Milwaukee for its 2021 season opener, Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m. ET. For more details on how to follow the Cardinals next Wednesday and throughout the season, please follow @BallStateSports, @BSUCoachBrady and @BallStateWBB.
