Cardinals Drop Saturday Afternoon Meet at Ohio
January 25, 2020 | Women's Swimming and Diving
ATHENS, Ohio – After winning three in a row, the Ball State University women's swimming and diving team saw its streak snapped Saturday afternoon when it fell to Ohio, 188.5-110.5.
BSU's record in duals dropped to 5-3 for the year. The Cardinals also fell to 2-2 in meets on the road.
Ball State's first win of the day came in the 100 Breast when Alex Bader clocked a time of 1:04.53. Apsara Sakbun later tied for first in the 100 Free (52.58) with Ohio's Mckenzie Grau.
The other first-place finish for the Cardinals occurred on the diving boards when freshman Madison Gatzlaff claimed first on 3M by scoring a 253.35. Gatzlaff also finished second on 1M (225.45).
"We had a bit of a rough warmup, but give credit to Maddie," said diving coach Nick Gayes. "She responded really well when it was go time and showed just how deep our group is by securing her first career win."
Including relays, Ball State completed seven second-place finishes on the day.
The Ball State men will be in action Sunday when they compete at the Butler Invitational. The meet begins at noon ET. The women compete next at Notre Dame on February 1.
