Jones Captures 200m Title on Day 2 of Gladstein Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - Senior sprinter Amber Jones (Matteson, Ill./Rich South) clocked in at a career-fast 24.65 to win her section of the 200m Saturday afternoon to lead the Ball State indoor track and field team on the final day of the Gladstein Invitational.

Jones, who was one of three Cardinals to record a personal-best time in the 200m, also ran the second leg of the fourth-place 4x400m relay which finished in 3:52.48. On Friday, Jones placed second in the 400m at 56.95.

Ball State also added three second-place finishes Saturday, with freshman Charity Griffith (Arlington, Ind./Rushville) clearing 1.60m (5-3) on the high jump, senior Kelsey Walters (Troy, Ohio/Troy) tossing 14.49m (47-6.5) in the shot put and junior MaQuila Norman (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Lutheran West) clocking in at 24.88 in the 200m. All three were career-best performances.

Walters' shot put effort keeps her second all-time in the Ball State's record book, as it was 0.12m further than her previous career-best mark of 14.37m (47-1.75) which held the same spot.

Overall, the Cardinals finished the two-day Gladstein Invitational with two event victories, six runner-up finishes and 24 top 10 performances. Ball State's student-athletes also recorded 13 career best performances, including six on the final day of competition.

Next up for the Ball State indoor track & field team, the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame which begins Feb. 7.
