Lukacs and Kaplan's Singles Victories Not Enough In BSU's 5-2 Loss To Louisville
January 24, 2020 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Livia Lukacs and Amy Kaplan both earned singles victories for Ball State (1-1) today but it wasn't enough as Louisville (3-0) would go onto to defeat the Cardinals 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
Although the Cardinals lost the first point of today's match against Louisville, doubles play was much closer in competition than the outcome. On court one, Emma Peeler alongside teammate Livia Lukacs had won the first couple of points before Louisville's Reah Verma and Andrea Di OPalma fought back to win the match, 6-2 on the top court. Louisville would then lock up the doubles point at the No. 2 slot, posting a 6-3 decision over Ball State's Rebecca Herrington and Emily Desai. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Amy Kaplan and Victoria Sec fought hard to win their match for the Cardinals but lost in a tiebreaker, 6-5 (9-7).
Three Cardinals took first sets to open up singles action. Both Peeler and Kaplan took 6-4 decisions over their respective opponents at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Lukacs would also go up a frame over Haumueller on court six. She went onto win her match 6-0, to tie up the score, 1-1. Louisville then earned victories on courts three and one to go back up by two. Kaplan gave Ball State its second point of the day with her straight set take down over Jelena Vujanic at position four, 6-4, 6-3. Louisville's Diana Wong claimed match point after beating Sec at the No. 5 slot, 6-4, 6-1. Peeler was the last Cardinal on the court for BSU. She fell in a second set tiebreaker to Verma at position two, 6-4, 2-6, 6-10.
The Ball State women's tennis team heads to Murfreesboro, Tenn. next weekend for two matches. The Cardinals will face Western Kentucky first on Friday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. and then will close out action against Middle Tennessee Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m.
