Cardinals Come Up Just Short at Evansville
January 17, 2020 | Men's Swimming and Diving
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Despite senior caption Ben Andrew earning multiple wins on the night, the Ball State University men's swimming and diving team came up just shy of a victory as it fell to Evansville 156-132 Friday night.
The Cardinals fell to 2-2 in dual meets on the year in their first competition since the holiday break.
Andrew was just one bright spot for the Cardinals on the night as he took home wins in both the 100 Breast (58.82) and 100 Fly (51.10). The other individual win for BSU came from freshman Owen Chaye who claimed victory in the 50 Free (21.56).
Ball State's divers split the 1M and 3M on the night as Hunter Ongay won the 1M (262.80) and finished second on 3M (223.92) while freshman Wyatt Blake won the 3M (226.42) and placed second on 1M (249.05).
The Cardinals finished second in both relays as a team of Logan Ackley, Andrew, Bryce Handshoe and Drew Weeks clocked in at 3:31.81 in the 400 Medley Relay followed by Jack Wolfred, Chaye, Davis Meyn and Handshoe recording a 1:26.84 in the 200 Free Relay.
Overall, the Cardinals earned seven second-place finishes in the pool along with 11 third-place results.
Ball State will honor its seniors Saturday afternoon when the women face Indiana State and the men participate in an intrasquad meet at the same time. The meet begins at 3 p.m. ET and will broadcast on Facebook Live.
