WVB’s Allison Hamaker Claims MAC West Offensive Player of the Week
September 23, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - After leading the Ball State women's volleyball offense with a 3.82 kills-per-set average last week, freshman opposite Allison Hamaker has been recognized as the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week.
"We were really able to get Allison going this weekend and she was a big part of our team's success," head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said. "She's always giving 100%, bringing energy and doing whatever it takes to help us win the next point. She earned her honors this past weekend with her strong play and hopefully, she can carry this momentum into the conference season."
In addition to being honored by the league, Hamaker was named to the Active Ankle Challenge All-Tournament Team after recording double-digit kills in all three matches, including tying her career high with 16 versus an 11-1 Wright State squad.
She also hit a team-best .337 (42-11-92) over the two-day event, with her best effort coming Saturday night when she connected at a .526 (11-2-19) clip against Missouri State.
Hamaker and the Cardinals open MAC play Thursday with a 7 p.m. first serve at Toledo. From there, Ball State travels to Akron for another 7 p.m. league contest Saturday. The MAC West Division preseason favorites, the Cardinals finished non-conference play with a 6-6 record.
